A Mysterious Attack on Titan Prequel Might Be in the Works

Attack on Titan may have wrapped up with the thunderous events of the Rumbling, but Hajime Isayama’s universe is far from forgotten. A brand-new official website for the franchise has sparked rumors that a prequel might be on the way — and fans are buzzing with excitement.

Since the release of the final episode in November 2023, the series has remained in the spotlight thanks to The Last Attack, the compilation film of the concluding parts, and a steady stream of new merchandise. But it was the launch of a fresh official website, announced through the franchise’s X (formerly Twitter) account, that caught everyone’s attention. The site teased that “more updates are coming soon” — without giving any clues.

For now, the website only contains basic details about the manga and anime, but the cryptic promise of future updates has ignited speculation. Could a new spin-off anime be on the horizon?

The Prequel Fans Have Always Hoped For

It’s worth noting that Attack on Titan already has two official prequels: the Before the Fall light novels, which take place 70 years prior to the main storyline and explore the origins of the Vertical Maneuvering Equipment. While intriguing, they never sparked as much demand as the long-desired, unofficial prequel exploring the Great Titan War.

The Great Titan War was a civil conflict among the Eldians during King Karl Fritz’s reign. The war led to the rise of the Marleyan Empire and the eventual isolation of Paradis Island — key historical events that shaped the world known to Eren, Mikasa, and Armin. A series based on this period could dive deep into epic Titan battles, political intrigue, and the tragic roots of the AoT universe.

When Will the Big Reveal Happen?

Though there’s no official confirmation of a new anime yet, the timing of the website launch and increased activity on the series’ social channels suggest that something major may be brewing. With the 2025 Summer Season approaching, fans are hopeful that a big announcement — and perhaps even a jaw-dropping trailer — is just around the corner.

If this prequel becomes a reality, Attack on Titan could follow in the footsteps of franchises like Star Wars and Game of Thrones, expanding its lore with stories from the past. With such rich narrative and visual potential — from the Eldians’ downfall to the Titan War and Marley’s rise — the possibilities are thrilling.

Is something epic on the way?
