Will Marvel Kill Off Professor Xavier Again in Avengers: Doomsday? Fans React

Marvel Studios has officially confirmed that Patrick Stewart will reprise his role as Professor Charles Xavier in Avengers: Doomsday, joining other returning X-Men from the Fox era such as Ian McKellen, Kelsey Grammer, and James Marsden.

The announcement thrilled fans, but also reignited an old concern: is Marvel planning to kill off Xavier again, marking his fourth on-screen death?

Xavier's History of Tragic Endings

Since 2006, the iconic mutant leader has met his end multiple times in major films.

His first cinematic death occurred in X-Men: The Last Stand, where Jean Grey, consumed by the uncontrollable power of the Dark Phoenix, disintegrated him in a dramatic scene.

Later, Logan delivered one of the most emotional farewells in superhero cinema. An older, frail Xavier was shockingly murdered by X-24, a ruthless clone of Wolverine, in a moment that highlighted both the vulnerability of the character and the film’s heavy tone.

More recently, a multiverse variant of Xavier—styled after the classic 90s animated series—briefly appeared in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, only to be violently dispatched by the Scarlet Witch in a visually intense psychic battle.

What Awaits Xavier This Time?

With Robert Downey Jr. now confirmed to portray Doctor Doom, some fans suspect Marvel might lean on a familiar tactic: killing Xavier early on to establish the new villain’s power and threat level.

While this move could reinforce Doom’s menace, critics argue that it would be a tired narrative device, diminishing the impact of Xavier’s presence.

Analysts suggest a fresh approach would better serve the character’s legacy. Given how central the multiverse has become in recent MCU storylines, one alternative could be showing Xavier playing a key role across realities, using his telepathic abilities to unite different timelines—without necessarily having to sacrifice him.

Looking Ahead: The X-Men’s Future in the MCU

Kevin Feige has already confirmed that mutants will play a vital role in the MCU's upcoming phases. How the studio chooses to handle the farewell of these legacy characters could shape the tone of this new chapter.

Many fans hope Marvel will honor Patrick Stewart’s portrayal by giving Xavier a meaningful and respectful send-off, instead of repeating his tragic fate.

While nothing is officially confirmed about Xavier’s storyline in Avengers: Doomsday, speculation continues to grow. Will Marvel take the safe, predictable route—or surprise audiences with a bold and unexpected twist?
